Election season bafoonery does not belong to the BMF, you are better than that. On a point of order.

BMF members and leadership!! On a point of order please!! Kahleni tuu, musani u ku qhazwa hi nyakanyaka tuu!!

Again we ask to whose 'interest' or what 'interest' is the headline being given airtime. The BMF remains one of the most vocal organisations that advocates the 'Black' cause in its area of influence. Naturally it will become a 'node' of 'interests' and 'individuals' with interests. At its inception, it was a construct of Black Managers whose mobility as managers was limited by their 'blackness' thus robbing the advancement of 'Black' livelihoods in an otherwise hostile economy.

Individuals that led the BMF at all its levels became loyal to the interests of the BMF to the extent it advanced the 'national interests' of 'Blacks' at the time. In that vortex of loyalty, some became 'puppets' of 'interests' that could not be reconciled with the establishment 'interests' of the BMF, safe to being and antidote to the 'blackness' concentrate that advocated 'Black Power' with a non-racial and/or multi-racial context. Such puppetry should never be assumed to have evaporated, it has in fact diffused itself into the 'factory fault' dimensions of 'Black Economic Empowerment'.

The power of those that empowered has always been construed as an investment into the social and political capital blackness would have, and arguably still, commanded in a non-racial, non-sexist and democratic South Africa. The Black people enfranchisement outcomes were a reality that needed a strategic foresight whose dividends needed to advance 'native control' and 'truncation' of Black Management discretion as a bulwark with which general socio-economic transformation could be driven. The attuning of each interest into a congeries of individual persons in the BMF, with varying degrees of fervour, and making such interests a common concern driving interests that may have leased influence space interior to the BMF, has always been a megafunds investment destination.

As individuals are profiled to have made it to the pinnacle of the objects that the BMF was established for, their other profile of changed 'interest' about the 'original' interest gets to be foregrounded into a 'normative space' that defines transformation as an antithesis of the 'base interest'. Shifts of 'interests' are generally induced by the 'new interests' to be pursued.  A condition where chickens volunteer to keep the wolves' den clean by promising to always come with other chickens to sacrifice as they clean. It is the continuity of the sacrificing other chickens to the wolves that defines the darling or otherwise status of the 'cleaner' chickens that determines the weigh of the 'empowerment feed' they get.

This 'cleaner' chicken reward system creates amongst the power disenfranchised to become a society where interests are free to rise and fall, by way of the freed choice individuals, a condition that renders all origin interests of the BMF perpetually unsafe. The market for 'cleaner' chickens creates a competitive space in Black institutions of leaders such as the BMF that assumes a horizontal focus of energies at the expense of higher causes and objectives set by the founding fathers of the BMF.

Without exonerating President Andile to deal with the allegations through a transparent process, which might become the inaugural opportunity for a in-BMF integrity management system anchored on the ethicality the BMF espouses, the stature he has accumulated procures for his sensitivity to the impact of the advocacy heights he took the BMF. It would be naive for the President of the BMF, a clearly definable embodiment of Black 'interests' when 'organised black business' haemorrhaged itself at the alter of the '26%' chase, not to contextualise this as an attack to the cause he championed through a potential misstep in the management or otherwise of the organisation.

As a country we should by now have learnt that those that maintain templates of dominance have an inalienable right to be at fault, and those that manufacture tremors to disturb the very templates are candidates of the fiercest forensics. The cancer of reducing 'institutions of leadership' into 'leadership contestation' rings at the expense of what they should be or have achieved is settling as a pandemic. It is interesting, and without absolving any possibility of malfeasance, that at every election season of 'institutions of black leadership' we will always have as a casualty the smarter of us, unless the remove themselves from the 'turkey shoot' target position by withdrawing from the race, sometimes prematurely. The best case scenario for them is more often a loss to the institution.

Until there is evidence of malfeasance in the BMF by the President, this episode should be categorised as part of the broader lack of 'national interest' and 'ideational cohesion' by those into whose hands we have entrusted our hopes for a 'beyond incumbency attitude' of the breed we saw in the 1949-61 Black leadership that set the clarion call of 'political freedom in our lifetime'. Election seasons attract bafoonery of the highest order, but the cognitive expectations we have of the BMF should negate this as a practice.

The revolution can't breathe; it is incomplete.

Only some political revolutions get to be completed. Because all revolutions end up with a settlement by elites and incumbents, they have become an outcome of historical moment-defined interests and less about the actual revolution. This settlement often involves a power-sharing agreement among the ruling elites and the incumbent government, which may not fully address the revolutionary goals. When the new power relations change, the new shape they take almost always comes with new challenges. As the quest for political power surpasses that of pursuing social and economic justice, alliances formed on the principles of a national revolution suffocate.    The ANC-led tripartite alliance's National Democratic Revolution is incomplete. The transfer of the totality of the power it sought to achieve still needs to be completed. While political power is arguably transferred, the checks and balances which the settlement has entrenched in the constitutional order have made the transfer...

The Ngcaweni and Mathebula conversation. On criticism as Love and disagreeing respectfully.

Busani Ngcaweni wrote about criticism and Love as a rendition to comrades and Comrades. His rendition triggered a rejoinder amplification of its validity by introducing  a dimension of disagreeing respectfully. This is a developing conversation and could trigger other rejoinders. The decision to think about issues is an event. Thinking is a process in a continuum of idea generation. Enjoy our first grins and bites; see our teeth. Busani Ngcaweni writes,   I have realised that criticism is neither hatred, dislike, embarrassment, nor disapproval. Instead, it is an expression of Love, hope, and elevated expectation—hope that others can surpass our own limitations and expectation that humanity might achieve greater heights through others.   It is often through others that we project what we aspire to refine and overcome. When I criticise you, I do not declare my superiority but believe you can exceed my efforts and improve.   Thus, when we engage in critici...

The ANC succession era begins.

The journey towards the 16th of December 2027 ANC National Elective Conference begins in December 2024 at the four influential regions of Limpopo Province. With a 74% outcome at the 2024 National and Provincial elections, which might have arguably saved the ANC from garnering the 40% saving grace outcome, Limpopo is poised to dictate the cadence of who ultimately succeeds Cyril Ramaphosa, the outgoing ANC President.  The ANC faces one of its existential resilience-defining sub-national conferences since announcing its inarguably illusive and ambitious renewal programme. Never has it faced a conference with weakened national voter support, an emboldened opposition complex that now has a potential alternative to itself in the MK Party-led progressive caucus and an ascending substrate of the liberal order defending influential leaders within its ranks. The ideological contest between the left and right within the ANC threatens the disintegration of its electora...
